Originally from Boston, Massachusetts (where he studied with such jazz greats as Ray Copeland, Archie Shepp, Max Roach, and Ricky Ford), he moved to Austin, Texas in 1982 where he became an integral part of the Austin music scene. Paul has toured internationally and opened for worldclass artists such as Ray Charles, BB King, Charles Brown, The Neville Brothers, Larry Carlton, and James Brown. He has appeared on national TV and radio shows, including Garrison Keilor's Prairie Home Companion. Paul won the 2004 W.C. Handy Award for best new artist as part of Nick Curran’s group The Nitelifes. Paul’s original CD “Texas Tenure” (1999) features over 20 of the best jazz musicians in Austin. It is contemporary music that draws from many parts of the jazz tradition, including swing, bebop, Latin, funk and blues. Paul’s experimental/acid jazz album, Man In Chamber (2005) takes the listener on a musical jouney. Paul's roots/R&B project, Manteca Beat, released its first CD, "Manteca-licious!" in March, 2007.
